Short Description

Tau-nY18 is a mouse monoclonal antibody (mAb) specific for human tau that has been nitrated at Tyrosine 18. 

 

Abstract

Researcher Lester Binder has created a series of useful antibodies that are specific for the human tau protein. This particular antibody, Tau-nY18 mAb, is of the IgG1 subtype and is specific for human tau that is nitrated at Tyrosine 18. Nitration of Tyr 18 slows and prevents the formation of human tau filaments, which plays a role in astrocyte activation, an early event associated with amyloid plaque formation. Therefore, this antibody is a powerful tool to study the role of nitration of tau in the progression of Alzheimer's disease and may have implications in the diagnosis of neurodegenerative diseases. The Tau-nY18 mAb was derived from a hybridoma cell line created through the fusion of SP2/o myeloma cells with splenocytes from a mouse immunized with a synthetic peptide corresponding to human tau amino acids 12-24 that was nitrated at Tyr18.
