Short Description

A process to generate cement composites with enhanced features

Abstract

Northwestern researchers have developed a process to generate cement composites with enhanced features. They first concentrate multi-walled carbon nanotubes (MWCNT) and other nano-reinforcement suspensions as admixtures in cement-based materials. The high level of concentrated nano-reinforcement agents are then dispersed in an aqueous medium with suitable surfactants which provide stable suspensions. The concentration process of the admixtures not only preserves the solubility of the MWCNT suspension and but also yields cement composites with enhanced strength.

Applications

  • Cement manufacturing

Advantages

  • Stronger cement
  • Large scale production of admixtures

IP Status

Issued US Patent No. 8,865,107
